def-initely
My husband was very happy when high-definition TV hit the market a few years ago. He says it makes him feel as though he’s “seeing reality in a crystal-clear image.”
I would venture to guess that Dianne Sawyer was not quite as enthused that every crevice, pore, wrinkle, and skin flake was going to be broadcast in a “crystal-clear image” to most of America.
Not surprisingly, this viewing technology changed the cosmetic market in a big way. To counteract the they-see-everything problem, companies—most notably, Make Up For Ever—began launching a range of foundations and powders that help reality disappear with the sweep of a sponge or the gentle mist of an airbrush. Be it CBS or CVS, it took all but a minute for everyone to realize that this makeup does a good job of erasing imperfections in real life, too.
When I went on-air last year to talk bargain beauty on a local TV show, the producer hit me with a light cloud of white HD powder just before I stepped into the studio. I looked like me…but in soft-focus.
So, naturally, I ran out and bought my own tiny tub of Make Up For Ever’s HD Microfinish Powder, which I’m in love with to this day. Here’s why:
- It does away with that overly made-up look you get when you sweep powder over foundation. With Microfinish, you get the shine-free and the finished…but without the extra toppings.
- It comes in a teeny-tiny pot that takes up little room in your product arsenal.
- That teeny-tiny pot costs $30, but lasts forever. (Which may explain the name of the company.)
At my, um, age, I’ll take soft focus over crystal clear any day of the week.
How about you? Have you tried HD makeup? Have any particular favorites? Please tell….
